Posted on 06 May 2013 by Webmaster

Kick Off May 8th at the Wallingford Center Plaza

Now in its 6th year, the Wallingford Art Walk is gearing up for Summer with their annual kick-off  this coming  Wednesday, May 8th. Festivities will include live music on the plaza of the Wallingford Center and great Art in participating businesses. The June Art Walk will have a exhibition from the UW Art students on the plaza of the Wallingford Center. We are planning other events for art connoisseurs and Wallingford families alike in the months to come.

The upcoming kick-off event will feature music from local Seattle band Primary Colors on the Wallingford Center Plaza. Colleen Kurke, Owner of CUTZ Meridian will spearhead this year’s Art Walk. This is what she has to say:

Art has always been a passion of mine. So much hard work has been done in the past years to make the Wallingford Art Walk what it is today, and I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to be the Art Walk Chair for 2013. To me, it’s all about building community and promoting the local artists and businesses that make Wallingford such a wonderful neighborhood to call home.

The Wallingford Art Walk will be taking place every 2nd Wednesday from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM,  May through September 2013. If you are an artist, musician, business owner and you are interested in getting involved, please contact us through our website http://wallingfordartwalk.org, or find our table/booth at the Wallingford Center Plaza any night the Art Walk is held. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Wallingford Earth Day Celebration: Operation Beautification! Sat., April 20th, 9:30-1:00

Posted on 29 March 2013 by Webmaster

Make Earth Day Every Day!Wallingford Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Wallingford Boys and Girls Club to celebrate Wallingford Earth Day on Saturday, April 20th. We’re calling all Wallingford neighbors & businesses to grab a rake, a trash bag, a grabber, a vest and take part in “Operation Beautification!”

There will be four teams: Two teams from the Boys and Girls Club, a neighborhood team and the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce team.  All team members will meet at the Wallingford Center.

The event will kick off with a Earth Day styled presentation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. by Wallingford’s very own Anita Elder, on Orchard Mason Bees. Find bees fascinating? Check out this recent post on Wallyhood.org about bees in our neighborhood.

After the speaker, teams will fan out all over Wallingford and get to ‘cleaning-up.’  Meanwhile, Family Works and their guests The Wallingford Greenhouse will offer ongoing Earth Day activities throughout the day, such as  “How to plant your first starter plant.”

The Wallingford Greenhouse is a volunteer program in its fifth year involved in growing organic veggie starts for the 65 Giving Gardens in Seattle that produced over 26,000 pounds of produce for local food banks last year. It is a 8′ x12′ backyard greenhouse near Gasworks Park and about 30 volunteers rotate through the greenhouse sowing germination trays and transplanting seedlings which get delivered when ready.
