Help Sparkling Wallingford Society Remove Invasive Foxtail and Beautify N 45th Street

The Sparkling Wallingford Society formed in 2025 through Seattle’s Adopt A Street program. Our volunteers keep N 45th Street—from I‑5 to Stone Way—clean, safe, and welcoming. In just one year, nearly 50 members have collected more than 2,300 pounds of litter from our neighborhood streets.

Now we’re taking the next step toward a healthier, more beautiful corridor.

This Fall’s Project: Foxtail Removal and Mulch Restoration

Foxtail grass has invaded many of the tree wells along N 45th Street. It’s not only unsightly—it’s dangerous for pets, whose fur and skin can be injured by the sharp, dried seeds. This fall, we’re launching a focused effort to remove foxtail and other invasive weeds from select tree wells and replace them with protective mulch barriers to prevent regrowth.

Your donation will help us:

  • Purchase mulch and weed‑barrier materials
  • Equip volunteers with safe removal tools
  • Cover disposal and transportation costs
  • Keep our streets safer for pets and more attractive for everyone who visits Wallingford

Why It Matters

Foxtail spreads quickly and can cause painful injuries to pets. By removing it and restoring the tree wells, we’ll create a cleaner, healthier environment for our furry friends and a more welcoming streetscape for residents and visitors alike.

Looking Ahead

This project is just the beginning. Future plans include:

  • Adding native and ornamental plants to larger planting strips along N 45th Street
  • Partnering with local businesses to place small sidewalk planters that bring color and life to the corridor
